What makes the Black Hills and surrounding areas so special is that we have everything from rolling plains and sparkling lakes to forested hills and even otherworldly canyons. Craving a more urban feel? Rapid City has some incredibly cute coffee shops and quiet streets, perfect for a stroll during your session!
BADLANDS NATIONAL PARK
Let’s start with Badlands National Park. With towering shale spires and canyons that seem painted by rainbows, you feel like you’re on another planet in the BEST way. If you’re craving a bohemian or adventurous feeling session, this spot has your name on it.
CUSTER STATE PARK
Next up: Custer State Park. With over 71,000 acres, it’s safe to say that you won’t need to worry about bumping into other people while photographing your session. This spot is perfect if you’re looking for a rustic forest vibe, lake views or the feel of rolling plains.
PACTOLA LAKE
For towering pine trees and a sense of adventure jumping out from your photos, Pactola Lake fits the bill! Its piercing blue water is particularly photogenic at sunset, when warm rays of light filter down through the trees and wrap around everything in their reach.
DOWNTOWN RAPID CITY
Not every session calls for adventure. If you don’t want to stray too far, Rapid City’s downtown area is filled with charming coffee shops and scenic streets. Stop in for a latte or a beer and have your photos feel like you were captured out at your favorite date spot.
